Maned Wolf and Newfoundland process

Maned Wolf

Ink and watercolour 90x120mm

Newfoundland

Ink and watercolour 90x120mm €35+ P&P

A little bit of process on the latest of the illustrations I've been making and selling to indulge my ice cream addiction -  a Maned Wolf and a Newfoundland, both measuring 120mm x 90mm.

I first work out the drawing in pencil, transferring it to the watercolour paper. Sometimes I end up changing the design as I work through the painting stage but it helps a good bit to have it pre-planned at least slightly.

I lay down the colours next. In the case of the newfie (being black) I used a bunch of different colours, just to give it a less flat look once the blacks are layered on top. I work with black ink washes first then I wrap it up with a dip pen for any outline or other darker aspects. I tend to do any highlight details with white ink on top.

I used to lay the ink first but I ran out of waterproof acrylic ink, and the current type I have tends to reactivate and make an unholy mess of the drawing.

The newfie is still up for sale, so if interested in purchasing you can comment here, or get in touch with me via eimhinmcnamara(at)gmail.com. I'm also accepting commissions at the moment, if anything tickles your fancy. For anyone that might like an illustration but is looking for a bargain I have loads of prints in my Dawanda shop that are available for €2 each: LINK

Neapolitan Mastiff pieces

Two more commissions:

Neapolitan Mastiff

Ink and watercolour 140x120mm

Neapolitan Mastiff Head Study

Ink 140x135mm

After making the other Neapolitan illustration earlier in the week, I ended up getting commissioned to create a second one, along with a head study. These guys are quite fun to draw, they almost start looking like marble drapery with all their skin folds.

If you'd like to commission an illustration you can get in touch with me via eimhinmcnamara (at) gmail.com, and we can discuss the particulars.

Illustration Orders

Above are some recent illustrations. Hit me up on eimhinmcnamara(at)gmail.com if you'd like one for yourself. Also if you order 4 or more prints from my shop, you can get a little ink doodle for free.

Fred

A little drawing I made of Fred, for his fosterer Kevin. Fred seems to have settled very well in to his new home now. He's even convinced the resident lurcher, Jess, of his charms.
Special thanks to Jane at Sighthound Strolls for all her work organising the match, and thanks to his new people for the lovely photo!

Recent commissions

A recent bunch of commissions, including some charity auction illustrations:

These two are in aid of Hogsprickle, a hedgehog charity.

These three were in aid of Cara Rescue Dogs.

The above two ink drawings will be auctioned off in aid of the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary

A portrait of Gus, the English Bull Terrier. Here is a little piece that was written about him: link

Commissioned by Lucy's Lounge, a vintage clothing shop in Temple Bar, these are their resident lurchers, Galaxy and Circus Girl.

And here is a portrait of Zara, Rusty and Boo that a friend of mine commissioned.
